Dear tomshardware,

Can someone build me a custom PC on pcpartpicker for a budget of max £3,500? What is the best system I can possibly get for this price, I want the system to run tripple A games at max performance with best graphics possible.

I want a very big case like the obisidian 1000d to have lots of harddrives to upragde in the future.

Thanks.

Hey there,

Is this to include monitor/s and/or OS too? Or just the base system?

What monitor are you paring the system with? Are we talking 1440p or 4k?

Something like this:

I'm sure some posters will have alternatives, or different component choices, so wait for a few more options provided by the community.

Edit: Couldn't get the Obsidian 1000 in PCpartpicker, but I'm sure it's possible to get from other stores in the UK.

First of all getting a large case to fit in huge number of HDDs is bad. Next I highly recommend external storage instead. Something like WD My Cloud EX4100 and use it to run RAID setup. I specifically recommend RAID 1. I know it is expensive but is safe.

Hi,

Thank you for this. Yes I am only looking at the system build and a cheap OS to put on it.

I already have a monitor which is 2K, 144HZ, IPS pannel.

As I can see you went with the RTX 3080-TI, do you think this is a better option then comapired to the RTX 3090 or RTX 3090-TI ?

Thanks

Why is this a bad idea to get a huge case for? And what is wrong with internal storge as a second HDD for games and using like a M.2 SSD for main OS drive?

Thanks

So you use WD My Cloud EX4100 intead of internal storge to store games onto. This is a first for me, may I ask why do you do this instead of just having a second drive in your PC system?

Because you can get 10-12-16-18TB drives quite easily.
No need to have a lot of smaller drives.

Or, offload a lot of that spinning HDD space to a NAS box.

My main PC is 6x drives, all SSD. 6TB, NVMe and SATA III.
My NAS is 12 drives, (almost) all HDD. ~80TB.

One question then about the NAS drives, would this be a security risk for people to look at your information on the drives?

As this is new to me the NAS drives, do you have to connect this to your router? Meaning other people in your house hold can look at your drives without you knowing?

Thanks

I have a QNAP TS-453A, plus 2 4 bay external enclosures.
The only systems and users that can access it are those that have actually been given login details.

Yes, it is connected to the router.
But no...it is not just "open".

Its a small server, with a full permission model.
If you don't have the right credentials, you can't get in.

And it will tell you how many times access has been tried.

Very high quality. Best performance you can get currently.

But should you be going ahead with it. I doubt it. In 2 Days AMD gonna announce Ryzen 7000 series in its Keynote. It is rumored that RTX 4000 series gonna be announced in Mid July which is not that far away. With all this going on I don't think it is really a good time to drop that kind of Money on it. If possible hold it off. And add to it as much as possible. Because okay even if Scalpers purchase and sell the new stuff for $200 over budget go for it. And no I think this time NVIDIA as well as AMD is going to hit with High production numbers hard for Scalpers to control the Market.
Anyways. I highly recommend holding off for now.

Because NVMe storage has become affordable and you can get 2TB NVMe easily and I bet you are not gonna play more games than what the storage can handle at a time. And you can easily on and off load the games you plan to play from External storage onto Main storage whenever you want. Not a hard thing to do. Better reliability and Easy maintenance.

Yes I have been hearing about this new RTX 4000 series cards coming out soon. But as the point you have given about production, some people are saying they will sell out like mad. Then people will buy the RTX 3000 series as they wont be able to get the RTX 4000 series then both the 3000 and 4000 series cards will be out of stock...

Do you think the new Ryzen 7000 series CPU is going to out perform the intel I9-12900K CPU then.

3000 series demand has fallen off compared to production and supply even before the rumors started.

Ryzen 7000 will most definitely outperform i9-12900K. But by how big of a margin is yet to be see. Heard that 7000 series gonna be absolute insane performance jump over the 5000 series. But only time will tell.

Is the Ryzen 7000 coming out in September 2022 then. Is it worth getting DDR-5 or DDR-4 RAM for a budget of £3,500 later this year or early next year? As DDR-5 Ram is very expensive comapired to DDR-4 RAM.

@danielm175 best to start these threads 7 - 10 days before you plan to purchase. FYI the 12900K is not a good buy for a gaming build. It's what we would call here in the states a 'hose job'. Same goes for the RTX 3090. This build down below gives you a rough idea of what you're looking at for a banger of a gaming build for your resolution (1440P).
