Best controller solution for Torchlight 1&2

So I've had torchlight 1&2 for like ever. Now in 2016 out of crazy backlog I am gonna start play. However I've search some areas. But wanted to get a general opinion.

Does anyone know the best controller solutions for either these games? I see pinnacle as an option for torchlight 1 and I see mods for Torchlight 2.

Is there anything that I am over looking? or does anyone have any recommendation

Much like diablo 3, torchlight should play well with anything like an XBOX One or PS4 Controller.

How, does it require a 3rd party app? Or is it set up that way. I didn't see it in the options and what about part 1

Neither game appears to have built in controller support so you'll have to mod both of them.

But while you "can" use a controller on them, they'd still probably be better with a keyboard and mouse.
