Hi, I currently have stock cooler for i5-6500 and I need some better cooler than than. Stock cooler is perfoming average but with summer coming I wanted to buy some cheap cooler that performs better than stock cooler so I was looking for Cooler Master 412r, is that good cooler and can someone suggest me better one in same price range?

I forgot to mention, I have NZXT Guardian 921RB case, so I am limited to about same dimensions of cooler as Cooler Matster 412r

Solution

The distance is measured from the CPU lid to the side panel. The fan refers to top blow cooler fans. The coolers I suggested has a different design.
Since tower coolers has their fans at the side, the 169.4mm value is the limit!
(A fan is usually 25mm thick, in case of a top blow cooler you may therefore have a 144.4mm high heatsink without fan. That also sums up to 169.4 ;)

Wise, that you included your case! The Guardian has 169mm cpu cooler clearance. I suppose, your price range is $30-35 based on the CM 412.
I would therefore recommend the Cryorig H7, the be quiet! Pure Rock Slim or the Cooler Master Hyper 212

In this article it says that CPU cooler clearance is 144mm, maybe I misunderstand it, does it mean on side panel fan, or fan at the top of the case?

Hey, being new here coming from the TH.DE community I wonder which price search engines you are usually consulting to offer a reference?

A good reference in the mentioned price range is for me usually Thermalright Macho or True Spirit https://geizhals.eu/?fs=thermalright&in=

Both can of course not top the Hyper 212 price wise.
