so i was thinking of buying a new CPU cooler to replace my AMD stock cooler. What i want is an air cooler, that will give relatively low temps on a 6000+ and will be very quiet. I do not plan on overclocking. So far I've come up with:

This one looks nice, has a high CF/M, and is said to be quiet. Also because it is only $35 after rebate.

a little priceier, but has the name and more good comments.

ive looked at the xigmatek's, and ive measured my allowance in my case, and they wont quite fit. i dont plan on liquid cooling unless someone can make a very strong case as to why.

any suggestions are thanked in advance.

I say get the OCZ Vendetta II. Tom's Hardware own review proved it beat the TRUE 120 and it's based off of Xigmatek's design. The OCZ Vendetta 2 is $37.95 at amazon and eligible for prime.

Read the whole post by the OP. He indicated that there wasn't adequate clearance for the Xigmatek, so the OCZ V2 won't fit either, its the same height.

hey thanks for the responses. i took a look at the s963 and the OCZ Vendetta2. The vendetta does appear to be a little too tall for my case. The s963 has good reviews and all, but i would prefer that the fan blow air to the back of the case, rather than up where the powersupply is. Any other suggestions?

My bad, for some reason I didn't see the OP's statement that the Xigmatek was too tall. By the way last resort, what case do you have?

Well I agree with KyleSTL. Like Blu-Ray, Zalman can kiss my ass. But halcyon is right, some people won't learn until the one entitiy they trust for whatever reason says so.

Thx again. The case Im using is a very cheap Apevia Aspire Mid-Tower. (Yeah i prob should of gotten a bigger case.) In that case i have measured that there is just under 150 mm from top of CPU to case window. (Im removing the fan)
The AC freezer 7 pro appears to be similar to the CM Hyper TX2. THey have comparable CF/M, and are said to be quiet. FrostyTech says that the Freezer 7 is quieter and also cools better. Does anyone have anymore info on how quiet I should expect them to be in the case, under a good size load? Thx

Remember, for the 6000+ you're not going with the Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro! That's a cooler for Intel chips. You'll be going for the ACF64Pro...that's the one for AMD CPUs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185125

It's basically the same cooler with the AMD specific mounting, (and a slightly slower fan with 5 CFM less than the 7 Pro) and it was actually the first to market. ...just would hate to see you order the wrong cooler.

The Zipang is an excellent high-efficiency low-noise cooler. It doesn't post record cooling results, but it holds its own with virtually no added noise.
