I have about $75 I can put toward cooling. I always use stock CPU fan, but I think I need an upgrade.

I had one computer running prime95 (on Linux, no X running), and it said something like:
CPU0... threshold...
I think it was about tempurature 🙁

Now I have a six-core AMD, integrated graphics (and sound), 8GB DDR3 RAM.

I happened to check temperature. From "sensors" on the command line on Linux Mint (lmsensors or something):

atk0110-acpi-0
Adapter: ACPI interface
Vcore Voltage: +1.37 V (min = +0.80 V, max = +1.60 V)
+3.3V Voltage: +3.36 V (min = +2.97 V, max = +3.63 V)
+5V Voltage: +5.10 V (min = +4.50 V, max = +5.50 V)
+12V Voltage: +12.03 V (min = +10.20 V, max = +13.80 V)
CPU Fan Speed: 3358 RPM (min = 600 RPM, max = 7200 RPM)
Chassis Fan Speed: 1753 RPM (min = 600 RPM, max = 7200 RPM)
CPU Temperature: +81.0°C (high = +60.0°C, crit = +95.0°C)
MB Temperature: +38.0°C (high = +45.0°C, crit = +75.0°C)

fam15h_power-pci-00c4
Adapter: PCI adapter
power1: 91.75 W (crit = 94.99 W)

k10temp-pci-00c3
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +80.4°C (high = +70.0°C)
(crit = +83.5°C, hyst = +80.5°C)

And HDDtemp says:

/dev/sdb: WDC WD2500JS-60MHB1: 44°C

(/dev/sdb because 2TB other drive shows up as /dev/sda)

[strike]I think this is bad.[/strike] I know this is bad.

Thank you in advanced... concerned 🙁

Solution
At 80c you processor starts to throttle from overheating.
You case only supports 2 fans which come prinstalled.
Your best option is an aftermarket CPU cooler.

Thanks for the hasty response!
I have Linux, but I will try it with Wine. (It is a Windows binary)
I never reboot, but I know I have AMT BIOS, not sure what mobo brand it is, forgot at the moment.

Results:

Needed to install wine, but I ran it and:
It 'cannot detect my AMD CPU'
I thought it might need to be root, so I did "sudo wine ..." and it said ".wine is not owned by you" or something...
I tried again without sudo and it still cannot detect my CPU.

Anything else I could do?

Thanks in advance.

Update:

According to lshw, mobo and cpu is:

wait... 200MHz?

Sure looks promising... way more than a stock cooler :pt1cable:

I have a Rosewill FBM-01, wonder if it will fit in the case... it looks big.

And I am guessing there is no water cooling/peltier/irresponsibly throwing computer in mineral oil (tee hee) solution that could be under $75? That is all I want to spend...

Thanks in advance.

Update:
Looking at http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1865662/hyper-212-evo-intel-stock-cooler.html, it seems very good... thanks for showing me that!

PLEASE reassure me this is a bad idea:

Sticking an oven thermometer near the CPU Fan

I am 99.9% sure this is a really bad idea... but is that the only way to get an accurate reading?

Oh, and I get 81.0C on Gkrellm. Also, my computer is lagging INSANELY, while I am typing this.

If you are running Nvidia drivers you can monitor temps in the Nvidia Xserver.
To control fan speed.

sudo nvidia-xconfig
sudo nvidia-xconfig --cool-bits=4
Restart and you have manual fan control.

Or for more control download file for your driver version.
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/nvidia-settings/

Sorry posted to wrong thread. you are running intergated HD3000 graphics.

So is 2 fans not a lot? My mobo only supports one case fan, the other is connected by molex. I bought the case because I thought it had a lot of fans... I used that case for all of my builds (2 so far)

For a small case with the CPU & GPU running @ 100% load it is the minimum needed. More fans moves more cooler air through the case.
Your CPU and most GPUs dump their heat into the case, which the fans remove.
An easy test is to feel the sides ,top and back of the case with your hands while it has been loaded for a while.
If the case is warm compared to your desk it could use more airflow.
Another easy test is to remove the side panel. If temps drop a lot, you need more air flow.

It is not a bad case, it just was not designed for high wattage component cooling, that is why it has 1 120mm intake and 1 80mm exhaust in the back.
Plus the AND stock heatsinks are not designed foe 100% constant load.
Especially Prime95 which loads the cpu very hard and constant.
My case has
1 200mm intake
1 140mm intake
1 120mm intake
3 120mm exhaust
plus 2 120mm CPU cooler fan and 1 100mm Video card fan.
They all run at slow speeds except the CPU which is @ 100% and the GPU which is @50-60%.
And it is quiet because the intake and exhaust fans run 500-800 rpms.

He is running @ default speeds ,and throttling according to his posts.
The CPU is @ 3GHZ under prime95 .Stock is 3.5ghz and boost is 4.0ghz.
