Question Best CPU for Acer Predator Arc A770

I am currently looking at doing a PC build as close to £1000 (£1500 max budget) with an Acer Predator Arc A770 however I am debating which CPU to use. Currently I am considering either the i5 13600K or i7 12700K however I am not sure which would perform better.

12700k is possibly worth it, you do get two additional P cores. So if you aren't doing heavy multithreaded stuff, it is a slight advantage there.

However, the 13600K has more cache per core and a little more potential clock speed. And the 4 additional e cores. So on lighter thread count applications it should perform better.

This cooler isn't much more and is a better looking match to the rest of the components.

If the A770 is the build theme, not sure recommending the 4060Ti is going to go over well. Dropping from 1440p to 1080p that is a whole other discussion.

I would put the 6750XT in its place if that was an option, particularly at 1440p, 8GB will prove problematic with that resolution. Also dropping down to 2TB from 4TB storage, if they want that much, I'm not going argue they know better than me what they want installed all at once.

I think DDR5 is the better choice now, prices are down and you can get decent 5600 and 6000 with pretty low CAS for not a lot.

I agree regarding the case though, plenty of better cases out there.

I went for 4TB to start with as from my experience sorting out 2 M.2.s gets them into "RAID" format where they won't accept other SSDs which can be awkward to sort out later on when upgrading storage... (might be phrased badly) and I intend to buy another M.2. later on.

You don't have to use raid, nothing wrong with separate drives.

But, yes if you plan for more drives, no sense going with a smaller capacity in a limited number of slots.

Though you could always get an PCIe to M.2 breakout card and put as many as 4 NVMe SSDs on a card.

Not actually sure the A770 is known for large transients. Only a 225W card, so even at 200% a 750W supply should be sufficient.

1440 is the killer with his budget. The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is due for release this July but I don't know what the price on that card will be.

+100, so any quality unit is going to be well over 500.

4060Ti performance isn't good for the money, barely beats the 3060Ti and in some cases doesn't. AMD 6800XT is the better GPU with the same amount of VRAM and about the same cost.

Biggest advantage Nvidia has is DLSS3 and decent ray tracing, which is fine, but cards like the A770 or 6700XT/6750XT can match it fairly well with XeSS and FSR. Intel also supports AV1 and has decent ray tracing performance like the 40 series, AMD misses on that one.

As close to 1000 as possible, maximum of 1500. If you start compromising to that extent, it is just a different build with different goals.

A770 performs quite well at 1440p because it has 16GB of memory and an architecture more suited to high resolutions, It performs poorly when trying to produce high frame rates at low resolutions and settings and is easily beat by the RX7600 and 6650XT and occasionally the RTX3060.

I think his choices are mostly good for the money and a bit of looking forward. A770 could age better with driver improvements, so can AMD, but we pretty much know right now that the 4060Ti is going to be pretty much exactly where it sits now.
