Which CPU is the best for audio editing and graphical editing?

I want to buy a new CPU and not a CPU that support old technology.
Thanks.

A CPU with 6 cores will not necessarily be useful for longer than a CPU with 4 cores. It is like saying a big SUV will last longer than a normal car.
my son is currently...

You may not see any difference between an i5 and an i7.
Depends how many THREADS (simultaneous CPU processes) your audio editing and graphical editing software needs.
For 1-4 threads, i5 and i7 perform the same. For 8 threads, an i7 is 30% faster than an i5

Faster clock speed also makes your CPU complete tasks faster, but the difference between 3.5GHz and 4GHz is not really obvious when using a PC .

Thanks for your reply.

I think I will buy the i7 5820K because it is the best CPU (for 4-5 years).
Is it worth to wait for the next intel cpus gen?

my son is currently gaming using a 7 year old quad core computer.
Buying a 6 core 12 thread CPU and then only using 4 cores and 4 threads would be like buying a big SUV then never having any passengers in it.
First find out what kind of CPU your programs actually need, then buy it.

Ok, Thanks for your reply, I understood your point.
I will use my PC for editing in Photoshop, Cubase, Pinnacle studio and more.
5820K is a CPU that comes with 6 cores, but it's 5th generation, so I don't know if I should go with 6th generation (i7 6700) or wait to 7th generation cpus that come in a few months.

What is the right thing to do?
Thanks.
