Hello,I'm going to build a gaming pc soon.I've already found all the parts,I just wanted to ask why would an i5-4690k (which I chose for my build) would be better than an FX8350.It has more cores (double cores),2 MB cache more and a higher clock speed at 4Ghz...however it requires much more energy (125 Watts) than the i5 (88 Watts) and it doesn't have integrated graphics. Is there any specific reason to actually consider the i5?I'm not on a tight budget (I could buy the 4690k) but I'd prefer to spend a little less money. Also I'll probably buy a cooler, because stock coolers are not the best ones 😛

Solution
In your situation you have two options.

Option #1

Even a locked i5 tends to outperform an 8350 even when OC'd to 5GHz in just about every game. Intel has always been a better choice whenit comes to gaming. If you are planning to do encoding or stuff like that, then AMD is a better choice. I'd probably grab a Xeon 1230v3 in your position. It's the equivalent of an i7 4770, but cheaper and has no GPU.

-i5 4690k has a bigger price tag than FX 8350 but is faster.
-i5 4690k will outperform FX 8350 in games and for editing purpose both will have almost same performance.

Option #2

The Fx-8350 has a better ability to run multi-threaded workloads like gaming and recording at the same time. The FX-8350 would be much cheaper and you could...

The CPU does not effect gaming as much as the graphics card. Because you are using multithreaded programs, you could go with the fx 8350 and use the money on something else.

Solution
Ok the Xeon might be better because it has hyper threading but it is also more expensive (I live in Greece and the 4690k costs for about 255 € while the 1230 V3 for about 307 € from an e-shop.I know that 0.2Ghz do not count very much,so I admit that the Xeon would be better but man I can't afford it xd).And I don't usually use multithreaded programs like video rendering,so I don't need the 8350 😛.

as I said

Go for it :)
