I will suggest you to go with amd ryzen 5 2600x or i5 8400 both are the good CPU. If your main aim to just play game then I5 8400 is the best CPU for you and if you want to do some mutli core tasks like video editing then go with AMD ryzen 5 2600x. Also if you are planning to overclock the CPU then you can get a overclockable version of the CPU.

The i7 7700K runs on all four cores at 4.2GHz out of the box with 4.4GHz on boost so that would be the best bet even if your motherboard does not support overclocking. The non-K version 7700 only reaches 3.6GHz with 4.0GHz in turbo on all four cores which is closest to your i5 in performance at least for gaming. For games that take advantage of hyper-threading and productivity programs like video editing, of course that's a whole other matter.
