I need it for gaming, but with this crap motherboard i'm stuck with core 2 quad q8200. But somehow the cpu died and looking to buy a new one. What's the best cpu for gaming with a LGA775 Socket also here's the motherboard : Foxconn G31MXP also budget is like $100 but still I would like to know which best one I can afford for now and the best this socket can take for the future, thanks in advance.

Agreed, Q9650 is the best CPU you can run on that board (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=motherboard&U=en-us0000416). However, that's not going to fit into your budget. A quick look at what's available (https://pcpartpicker.com/products/cpu/#k=13&sort=price&page=1) shows that CPU currently running at $236 USD, more than double your budget.

But while it's a couple of tiers up from your old CPU, it's still only a 4th-tier CPU (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-hierarchy,4312.html), roughly equal to a 1st-generation Core i5/i7 or one of AMD's A-series APUs. For a lot of the games coming out now or that have been released over the past year, your system just won't be able to run it.

If your budget is truly that...

With all due respect, you won't really get any form of 'future' proofing. Future proofing realistically is impossible, even harder on a LGA 775 socket. It is a very outdated socket, with outdated compatibility. The best types of processors that you can take on that board would be a Q9650 for example, but you're already above your $60 mark there. Equally the Q8200 I believe is above your $60 mark, so from my understanding, you can only downgrade.

Sorry to hold the pessimistic viewpoint! But realistically, my understanding is that from your budget, you can only downgrade, future proofing is technically impossible anyway, and the socket which is up to 10 years+ old now severely limits your capabilities realistically.

That is unless you can find a decently priced used CPU, the Q9650 i.e. But even then, that won't give you much for future usage.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550/Q9650 ( make sure it's supported by your MB bios)

around $30 on ebay

obviously you're working within the limits of your budget and I assume you understand the performance of the lga 775 vs newer platforms.

If your budget is truly that limited, then based on the available prices you can try the following:
-- cheapest is just get a replacement Core 2 Quad Q8200 for $47 USD. That's well within your budget.
-- best CPU that fits into your budget would be the Core 2 Quad Q9400 for $93 USD. It's a 2-tier upgrade, but still leaves you with a 5th-tier CPU (equivalent to the mid-range 1st-generation Core i5 CPUs or AMD's mid-range Phenom II X3/X4/X6 CPUs & their Bulldozer quad- & hexa-core FX CPUs) that's going to struggle with more modern games.
