OK guys so right now I have a xfx r7 250 with a q6600 and it's done me well but now I'm going to upgrade my r7 to the main gtx 1050 low profile in my optiplex 745 dt. I also wanna upgrade my CPU but I'm trying to figure out what is the best possible CPU I can have for this PC ? Thanks

Do you know what board your Optiplex has it in? That will determine the degree of your upgrade. I've worked on Optiplexes as an IT tech. I will say that Dell made them in a bazillion different configurations, but for the 745's. If you can give me the model of your motherboard, I can make a recommendation.

Now, 100% of the 745's I've worked with were LGA 775 platforms, which means you're stuck with the Core/Pentium/Celeron CPU's... single-core or dual-core Pentium's and Core 2 Duos. That core 2 Quad is many times more powerful than any Pentium D and will be much faster than even the highest-end Core 2 Duo. The Q6600 is one of the lower-end quad-core 45nm chips in the Core line. It's possible you can go a little higher on the rung with...
There's a reason why anyone who knows anything never gives a link to cpuboss. I don't think you realize you just suggested a single core cpu with 1/8 the performance of a q6600 that he has.

There's nothing worth upgrading to. Don't waste your money.

Thanks, I should have looked more closely.

Celeron, Core 2 Duo, Pentium D, and Pentium 4 (and their variants) are the only other processors supported by that motherboard.

I am sorry for my previous oversight, I was very tired and should have been sleeping.
