Best CPU for this situation?

I've just purchased a GTX 1080 (not arrived yet) and i'm currently using a FX-8350. Has anyone had any experience with these 2 together? I'm not completely opposed to the idea of upgrading my CPU to perhaps an I7 but would it be worth paying the price? For gaming purposes and photo editing and video editing would I get that much of a performance boost out of an I7?

In gaming the FX cannot fully utilize the GTX1080. So yes the i7 would see a very large increase in performance. As for editing I do not know, it is outside my realm of experience.

no doubt even a quad core i7 would easily outperform that AMD CPU but you would have to buy a new motherboard and ram with the CPU so if you have a lot of money to work with then go for it, if not then you should be fine

In graphics-intensive games, on maxed settings, there is less difference.

Would an I7 not work with a Asrock 990fx extreme6?

motherboards made for AMD CPU's do not work with Intel CPU's and vice versa

At least I'll get better performance than my current R9 280. It'l have to do for now but the plan is to get a new motherboard and an I7 soon.
