Hey all, wanted to ask a question about upgrading some of my PC components. Here are the specs for my PC:
CPU: Intel i5-6400
Mobo: Asus Z170-A
RAM: 8gb DDR4 @2400Mhz (single)
GPU: RX 480
Storage: 1tb HDD, 120gb SSD
PSU: 600 Watt Evga 80+ Bronze

I haven't upgraded this PC much since I built it back in 2016. I wanted to upgrade my old CPU and motherboard (and RAM) so I could potentially upgrade to an RTX 2060 without having to worry about bottlenecking. I could go with either Intel or AMD since I have to replace the motherboard for either option. As for price, I'm fine with a CPU around 200$ and a motherboard around 90-100$. My plan was to wait until Ryzen 3000and get one of the Ryzen 5 processors with an accompanying mobo (and improved RAM), but I would love to hear feedback on alternate options going forward. I mainly use my PC for gaming, but I stick to 1080p 60fps at Ultra (usage context).

Your memory is a bit slow for Ryzen and a single stick is going to hurt performance. For your budget I'd get the 9400F & B365 motherboard (supports 8/9th gen out of the box).

Or get Ryzen first gen now, overclocking the 1600 will give you good performance and per some rumors there's going to be a fourth and final release for the AM4 socket before AMD goes to a different socket. If you live near a Microcenter you can get the 1600 for $80.

Or wait and continue to save for 3rd gen.
