I have an older HP Pavilion Elite e9290f workstation that is currently running an i7 920 @ 2.67Ghz Processor/ LGA1366 Socket in a IPMTB-TK (Truckee) Motherboard w/ Intel X58 Express Chipset. I'm considering a processor upgrade that will balance the best price/performance without risking stability. HP's specs say this computer can be upgraded to "Intel Core i7 9xx series (Bloomfield, includes Extreme Edition)".

I'm using this machine to edit and color grade video. I would very much appreciate advice anyone can offer on making the best decision before I actually buy a processor.

Thanks,
KMartin

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking pretty much the same thing considering the cost of the 990 extreme and the age of the machine. Hoping the 975 extreme will produce a significant performance increase over the 920 when decoding/playing back and rendering high bit rate/ high color depth video codecs.
