Best cpu?

ok guys...i wanted to know your opinion on which processor would be better for this mobo.
I am not going to be overclocking and mainly playin games such as wow, swtor, rift, etc.

ASRock H77 Pro4/MVP ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

CPUS
Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor (this ones 184 on newegg)

Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz LGA 1155 Processor (this ones on sale at microcenter for 169, so i thought this would be better. what do you guys think?)

also, i can i dont buy neither one of those and i want a cheaper intel i5 cpu, what would my options be? thank you for you help =)

If you're not overclocking there's no point in purchasing a 3570K. H77 eliminates access to the multiplier so you will need the 3470.

Not with an H77 motherboard. You can't overclock. Which defeats the purpose of owning one.

1. There's no difference between 3.3 and 3.4GHz.

2. On default settings - when running in idle Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs run at 1/2 speed to save power.

3. By the time OP is ready to upgrade to Z77, there will be newer and better motherboards out.

indeed, the haswell intel cpus will come out for next year 2-3Q with new mobos with a new lga so he should decide know and i think the i5-3470 with the h77 will be enough since he doesn't oc, by the way the i5-3470 is now at 149.99$.

I still don't see the logic in paying MORE for a LESS powerful processor. Regardless of whether there is a performance difference or not, why pay more? I'll admit that if the K processor was more expensive I'd recommend the i5-3470 immediately, but since it isn't, it makes more sense to get that. Besides the fact that he can overclock if he upgrades, he can sell it for a better price if he indeed wants to get rid of the system.

Microcenter has the i5-2500k for 10$ cheaper, and all three options may be cheaper on Friday or Monday.

I totally agree that you should get the 3570k as long as it is cheaper. If the 3470 becomes cheaper, then absolutely get it instead; because it really doesn't matter.

There is simply no reason to pay more for less...

Go for price/performance. Even if you cant overclock choose the cheapest option.

Get the cheapest of the two. Think about this. Why not take the extra performance of the 3570K and still save $15. You're getting extra performance for less money and if you want to you can get a Z75 mobo that allows overclocking such a this and end up spending hte same amount of money.

In case people don't know the i5-3470 is at 149.99$ in microcenter and the i5-3570k at 169.99$, less 20$ not 20$ more as it was at 189$.
Hence my recommendation for the i5-3470.

It's cheaper and ever so slightly better.

Look at it this way. If I told you you could have a v12 engine for less than a v8, and your car could only use the v12 as a v8... how does it NOT make sense to get the cheaper option, all else being equal?

but gunit, would you rather buy an i5-3470 for 184$ or a fictional i5-3570 (with a locked mult) for 170$; the choice should be crystal clear. I understand what you mean, that the k unit doesn't really do anything better than the 3470, but if it is cheaper than it's slower counterpart, then the unusual pairing is the best price/performance ratio.

That may be, but I still think it's pointless to get the 3570 unless you're getting the K model. To me it doesn't really make much of a difference having that extra .1GHz but whatever, do what you like.

So WHAT if it's pointless? If it's cheaper then the slower chip... why the hell would you pay MORE for something that's SLOWER? Even if it didn't have the extra .1GHz, it's still _cheaper._
