...no Pentium G3258 on that list? That's disappointing.

On a B85 chipset motherboard I was able to get a stable 4.6Ghz dual core clock and 4.4Ghz cache clock on my G3258 at just 1.22v, and with a CM 212 Evo temps only reach 72C (25C ambient) at 100% load. It performs significantly better than the listed Athlon and i3 CPUs, and it's also only $67 on Amazon.

I have an i5-6600 (non K) and when I stress it, I don't see it running at less than 3.6Ghz in all four cores even after an hour has passed, with the included standard box cooler.
So, thats 300Mhz more than the i5-6500 and I think its worth it for the price difference.
I don't know when this CPUs use the base clock really.
Maybe it is because I use discrete graphics and the onboard GPU is switched off?

Ain't those new Pentiums as good as the Athlon X4 860K? The G4400 is $20 cheaper than the cheapest 860K I could find on Amazon. Also, the i5 6400 offers quite a good bang for the buck and sells for less than the 6500.

Currently upgrading from an FX-4100 to i7-5820k even though the FX-4100 still works pretty admirably for most games. There are only a few where the aging 4100 bottlenecks a bit. Not too bad for a 5 year old processor though.

I have a rsrock extreme 3 R2.00 motherboard($80 last year), AMD i3-8350 Eight-core processor 4.00GHz ($130 2year ago), 16GB 1333 Corsair ddr3, asus geforce 970 gtx strix proper rocks and so quite.

Yep 4790k specs just under 6700k, no need to get 6700 or 6900 until the prices come down.

4790k boots system up within 10 secs. Smokin CPU!

Compared 2 systems side by side one with 4790k and 6700k. The 4790k booted 3 - 5 secs faster.

Can't go wrong with 4790k with 1633 memory with Apache motherboard.

I must agree with this list. I'd make an argument for the FX 6300 as the entry level CPU, though. Pentiums are just too gimped, they lack some modern instruction sets, aren't hyper threaded, and only shine in single threading. There were some issues with games not even running on the G3258. IMO there isn't a place for a dual core with no hyper threading in newly built rigs. Instead of buying a Pentium with the plan of upgrading it, why not save a little longer and buy an i3 or i5 and put the extra money that would be wasted on another CPU into a better GPU? I've built a few rigs for friends and always steer them away from Pentiums if they want them. They are much happier with their FX 6300's or their i3's.

pentium is $50 at microcenter... also there is 0 reason to get a athlon x4 when u can get an i3 for $10 more... they should remove it from the list for $10 the i3 is so much better

Was pleased to see the i7-5820k get a honorable mention. Picked mine up for $316.99 USD. To date, sacrificing PCI-e channels for a hundred or two AUD$ was worth it. It is proven that PCI-e x8 is not too much of a sacrifice compared to PCI-e x16. Of course I am talking SLI, already have the GPU's and saved the extra bucks to spend on a decent mobo plus too much ram. I am sure that the 5820k wont disappoint me, the i5-3470 handles the multi-tasking well, happy to upgrade. Really looking forward to doing some BD transcoding with the 5820k, x99, 32GB 3.2GHz.

Plenty of good processors out there but what suits you may not suit another.
