Best cpus for AM2 motherboard

Currently i have amd 64 x2 5000+.
I want a better cpu, probably a 3 core or quad core cpus for AM2 socket.
I really want to know which ones would work good and comes in decent price. probably less than £50.

on paper you can drop in a AM2+ CPU on a AM2 board, but you need bios support.

The best for a am2 board was the x2 6400+ that was discontinued years ago. Trying to use a am2+ cpu on it will actually DECREASE it's performance on that motherboard. But the am2+ are also DISCONTINUED years ago. Even if you happen to find a 6000+ cpu, it will set you back 100-200 bucks (NOT even close to worth it). There isn't that much diffference between a 5000+ and a 6000+.

Better saving up your money and getting a new system instead. Look at the cpu benchmarks on this site.

am2 and am2+ was agena and yes some do run fine on am2 boards. The question is does his board support something like a 4 core 9550 or 9750

you have to check if those BIOS have update for the CPU in question.problem is, these boards are usually not supported by the contact centers, so you need to do ur own research. but its easy to find if you know the model numbers
