i AM BUILDING a AMD computer.
I am intrigued by the new kaveri processor so I think i'm going to wait a couple weeks for it.

But what is the best FM2+ Motherboard?

thanks,
david

Solution

so far my build is getting ready for kaveri or an a10-6800k, 2 x 4gb 1866 ddr3 ram, an 120 ssd by samsung evo,
I do no gaming ever on my computer but i use adobe photoshop illustrator, some occasional video editing and autocad,
Please advise, what motherboard would handle this, (high end...doesn't matter)

And what type of power source would I need, 430, 500, or 600 w.

thanks,

I know you said no gaming, but a dedicated GPU can be very beneficial for photo/video editing. I recommend an AMD GPU for photoshop, as this programme utilises OpenCL, something which the AMD GPU's excel at. Even if it's not a top grade card, you can notice a fair difference. Motherboard doesn't come into play too much when considering how it can handle tasks, however it can be nice to see a higher end boards additionaly functionality like more SATA ports, more PCI-E lanes, etc. If you like the look of the aforesaid motherboards, they are some of the best AM3+ boards out there at the moment. If you're looking elsewhere, look at the A88X chipset for sure. In terms of GPU, something in the new R9 or R7 series, otherwise in the HD7000 series. If you go with 1 GPU, 500w should cover almost any configuration. You can check estimated wattage on sites like www.pcpartpicker.com but 500-600w should be adequate for your needs. Hope this helps.

Currently I have two options. I have a three year an old gts 250 1 gig graphic card and I can't afford to add a new graphics card to my new build that is why I was considering a processor with a dedicated one.
Both options will cost just about the same for me.

Option one, aging am3+ motherboard with fx -8320 and my old 1gig graphic card

Option 2 , a new socket fm2+ motherboard with a a10 -6800k or new Kaveri processor .

PleAse advise

Just go with a nice shiny new FM2+ and the A10 6800k/Kaveri in that case.
The integrated GPU in the A10 6800k is actually better than a GTS250. If you want to step up to pro editing i'd suggest a better GPU, but this should suit your needs. Hope this helps :)

Great. That's also what I wanted to know if my old gts is already outdated by A10 series. That's I'm going to go with. Will I be able to add a separate graphics card combined with a A10 processor in the future if I need it given that the A10 already has graphics on it?

If you're talking about getting a dedicated GPU, then yes. You can either get a powerful more powerful GPU in the future, or you can actually crossfire the integrated graphics in the 6800k with an AMD 7750 or 6670 for increased performance. You can look up benchamarks at the time, and decide what's best for you. By that time it may just be cheaper to buy a dedicated GPU.

Fm2+ it is. But is it gigabyte motherboard or asus. That seems to be the only top two worth of mmentioned. Asus a88x plus or gigabyte sniper ?

Personal preference I'd say. Unless there are any special features on either motherboard that catch your eye. Or whatever one matches your color scheme. Personally, I run ASUS with my Maxmus VI Extreme, and my brother runs Gigabyte with his Z87X-OC. I can vouch for both brands as excellent quality.

gigabyte or asus a88x so i agree with this statement of excellent quality my dads asus just died after 8 years
my cousins gigaybyte was about 6 years old before it died ( may have lasted longer had she added better ventilation)

stay away from asrock as they are the worst for releasing dodgy boards its a hit or miss if your board works without issue with them especially with amd they seem to be worse with amd then intel for some reason while they have great functions on paper its the fact if your board works lol.

2 friends of mine have had asrock and so did i all doa lol. I got mine to post once before it went into a booting frenzy.

I don't have a solution but wanted to know what is the best fm2+ motherboard? I am going to wait for kevari but wanted to get the motherboard and everything before it comes out. There are a lot of different fm2+ chipsets and I don't know the difference between them. I want to future proof my rig as well. I want to add a decent GPU and do some gaming.

I don't do any video editing. I may dabble in it but that's it. I mostly surf the net and watch YouTube videos and play mkv 1080p video files. I want to be able to stream 4k videos in the future without any stutter or lag or anything. Thanks.

a88x sniper at present
but id wait for the processor to ship out as im sure another chipset will rear its ugly head
plus we do not know what kaveri is compatible with its only a few weeks to its release so i would sit tight and see what it brings
