Hi, just wondering ....
I have a friend who is trying to open a gamecenter.
He needs a server for his gamecenter.
I know that pentium 4 is more popular and prob faster than an 800 mhz Athlon.
But what I'm saying is, is it worthed to buy the expensive pentium 4 for a server?

The Pentium 4 would be great for a server. It really shines in high bandwidth situations. Make sure you get the full PC800 RDRAM.

Right now, the Pentium 4 shines in bandwidth applications, but that's about it.

You don't want the P4 as it is now. If P4/SSE2 optimizations become commonplace, then the P4 will shine--but by that time, Northwood will probably be out. It would be better to upgrade to Northwood then, rather than get a P4 now.

At the moment, you're probably better off getting a dual P3 with PC133. The P3 cpu still has a short future, but you'll still have a slightly better upgrade path than the P4.
