Best gamepad to play Dark Souls and fighting games on PC?

I recently bought Dark Souls on steam and read that the mouse and keyboard controls are atrocious and its much easier to use a controller. Does anyone have any recommendations for gamepads? I was looking at the logitech 310 but saw that many people complained about the unresponsive analog sticks. Any experiences/thoughts on specific gamepads would be appreciated.

Personally, I use an MS Xbox PC Controller. Never had any issues. Seems responsive enough for the types of games ive use it for. Never felt it was unresponsive. Cheap and cheerful

Personally, I just use a $10 generic USB Xbox controller. Dark Souls is the only game I use it for, and even then it's not something I'll get up and walk across the room for. The mouse and keyboard controls in DS are bad but not impossible. I would try a mouse and keyboard first, and then get a controller. I am assuming you mean controller and not a gamepad like the Razer Orbweaver.

If you buy a wireless Xbox controller, you will have to buy a receiver for it to use it on a PC. The play and charge kit doesn't include a data cable, just a power cable, just FYI.
