Best gaming cpu for single core games

I'm curious on the best gaming cpu that will be at the peak frames of games that utilize one core, such as rome 2. I was thinking the 4690k, as I don't require hyperethreading.

I3 4370 or i5 4690K. Basically anything with a very very high clock rate will be best for single core games.
