Best gaming HDD?

Hello I recently built my first pc but I used a HDD and DVD-RW drive from a HP desktop I have. I'm getting ready to sell my HP so I'm putting the parts back and replacing them in my new build. What is a good HDD? I use my pc for gaming but i cant afford a SDD at the moment. My budget is around $100. The HDD I'm replacing is a 1TB so thats waht im looking to get. Here are a few of the ones I'm looking at.

Also whats the diffrence in the WD Black 1TB and the WD Caviar Black 1TB? Thanks.

the term "gaming" hdd shouldnt be really used. Just avoid 5200 or less rpm drives then you are good to go. 7200 rpm is standard.

Hard drives don't affect gaming performance, only load times. Personally I would just go with a regular 7200 rpm drive for like $70.

if you insist, get the WD black drive.

I would personally recomend anything Western Digital.

Western Digital seems to be reliable as I have been using for the past 10 years.
Now that doesnt mean they dont die,In fact I just had a caviar black giving me a clicking noise after a month of moderate use and awaiting RMA

If you're planning on buying the system say a month from now I advise to buy the Hdd as early as possible in order to make sure it works well because Hdd tend to either work very well or die early

I will stick my nose in it and say that games do sometimes write to the hard drive as well, but only some, I saw it in some benchmarks somewhere, I'm sure a google search will suffice.

In any case, any 7200rpm drive will do the trick and as people have said, WD is the brand of choice. I have 5 samsung 7200rpm drives my self, some going on 4 years and are great. Another pc has 2 Toshiba 2TB drives at 7200rpm and they perform great too. Avoid Seagate like the plague!

statistics wise, hitachi* has the largest RMA rate last i recall. Seagate only gets bad rep because one of their revisions of hdd were plagued. current gen ones are perfectly fine. seagate and WD sit at about 2% rma rate, where hitachi was sitting closer to 3%*

performance wise the blues and seagate 7200.14 are actually better performing than the wd black drives contary to popular belief

Yeah I have been using seagates as have several of my friends and we've been fine, just avoid the 7200.10/11/12 drives and you're good

From 6 HDD I have, 4 are baracuda, 2 are blue...
from old to couple weeks old....
All still working, nothing wrong to go with them...

The one thad I remember had bad model is baracuda rev.11 (it need firmware update)

btw in any brand, bad disk can still happen (they are mass product)

edit: I'm just remember. if u had WD drive, u can use acronise true image soft/app for free.... (a backup program)

Best harddisk for gaming is definately SSD (Solid State Drives) or some of the hybrid versions. This question is more than a year old, I know, but even then SSD prices was already very affordable. Now it is even better. If you already spend a good deal on CPU, Mobo and Graphics card, why stop at harddisk? Loading times will be HUGELY faster with a SSD drive. Someone mentioned that harddrives does not affect gaming, only load times. I believe load times is part of gaming, and I like it when my games load fast, not slow.
