Might want to consider a set with a mic built in. In case you want to use chat in a game.

I think Koss makes very good headphones also.

I use a set of cheap sony behind the head 'phones and they sound really bad. But they are good for being portable.

I'm in the market for a good set with mic myself.
I've heard to stay away from Platronics (?), my cousin had a pair and broke on him easily.

Athlon 1700+, Epox 8RDA (NForce2), Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 80GB 8MB cache, 2x256mb Crucial PC2100 in Dual DDR, Geforce 3, Audigy, Z560s, MX500

i got platronics and had em about a year(built in mic) and they are real good. have nt broke yet and get great surround sound from a headfone set.

I just checked out the 580s, wow those are incredibly expensive for headphones. About $175 used!

I'd have to recommend checking out either the Koss Pro3AA or Zalmans new 5.1 headphones. Both only cost about $50.

The Koss have superior sound quality but the Zalman have true 4 point sound. Though they are not perfect, they make you think.. do you really want to buy another set of regular headphones?

I just tell it like it is and some can't handle it. If your experience is different, well congratu-fukulation.

The HD580's are the best i've found for the price, (i've got my pair right in front of me now)

but for gaming, i think they are a bit of an overkill. Gaming isn't that great on sound quailty and its more bass stuff, well in my opinion anyways. The HD580 and others in that range are more for proper music listening and have superior sound quality (hence the price, though i still think they're a tad to much).

you'd find something just as good (as far as you'd be able to audibly hear), and with alot better bass for alot cheaper, if they are only going to be used for gaming , look into Sony.

though still, the HD580 are the best audio purchase i've made if you're looking at them, i can recommend :)

cheers

I'm using LabTec's C-324. No problems. Sennheiser is german-based and have been known for its headphones. Plantronics is relatively new but gained popularity through its innovative designs. Both are good and expensive. If you can dish out the money, get it. Bit of an overkill for gaming though. My opinion.

Take into account that the best headphones aren't worth it if you have a POS sound card.
