i am looking for a new headset for gaming that is under the price of $250. I currently have astro and not looking to get the same. I am not picky on the brand so anything but astro is good. Thanks for the Posts!

Honestly, I love my G35 7.1 and it was on sale recently for $50 (Down from $130.) They sounds great, are driven by USB so you don't need an AMP, you get full 7.1 and for gaming that's awesome for listening for gunshots/footsteps. At the higher end you might get some more robust sound, but I have a set of hd598 from sennheiser and I don't really hear THAT much of a difference overall. They both sound good just different profiles. If you don't have an amp, you might want to keep that within your budget for a 3.5mm headphone set.

For 250 dollars? An audiophile headphone + Modmic all day long.

No headset will come close to the quality.

If you can afford it, Sennheiser HD 558 or 598 + DAC w/AMP (Fiio E10K?/Monoprice) + Modmic.

With 250 dollars I wouldn't waste it on a headset. Really wouldn't ever recommend something like the Razer Kraken Pro or Astro A50, they're not good.

The ''Surround'' feature of headsets is not key and very overrated, keep that in mind aswell.

I don't know. I'm pretty spoiled by my wireless logitech G930. I can go anywhere in the house and listen to music and never miss a conversation in teamspeak again.

If you say wireless as a must, perhaps. But it never comes close to the quality of studio-level headphones. Whole different planet.

HyperX Cloud is good as a headset. Rebranded Gemini and Dakstar headphone it is. Works ok with the Fiio E10K or simply a good audio featured gaming motherboard.

Steel series Siberia V2. Best reviews I've ever seen, works great.

I've never found surround ideal in gaming. Much prefer stereo even in the most competitive shooter games.

That's yet another poor headset. It was probably good in 2009. We are 6 years further.

I feel like you really know about headsets and looking more towards that audiophile headset with seperate mic, if i were to get the headset that you suggested, what mic would be decent enough for game talk?

They have a newer version, and mine does excellent in BF4. I hear footsteps all day.

All those 7.1 headsets are simply gimmicky, they're more virtual surround then actually surround themselves. You can still use virtual surround with super high quality stereo headphones and they actually will sound better. Really suggest you guys do the best of research and see if that changes your opinion.

''the modmic is hands down the most convenient mic since it clips on. quality is also good for the price. for cheaper there is the moovmic though quality is not as good.''

Many may be virtually surround, but they have the seven different channels for the sound to be distinguished. I have decent quality stereo headsets and I have a 7.1 virtual headset. I can much more easily distinguish location of sound relative to me with the G35. It may not have 7 drivers, but honestly I wouldn't want a headphone to. It functions well to simulate it by having the capability to divide those sounds over the channels, channels that aren't available over 3.5mm.
