Best GFX Card for 144hz Monitor

I opened a thread asking about the best 144hz monitor I could get for my build and was told my current GFX wasnt strong enough which is:

MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB 6GT OC Video Card

What would be the best to replace it with for around £500? I have been looking at :

MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING X+ 8GB GDDR5X Graphics Card

Is that a good one?

I wouldn't buy anything over a year old just wait for the next ones. Plus 144hz is great regardless of being over 144fps all the time... no tearing and if your getting just 90 fps you still see all 90 of those frames every second...

Couple of factors:

1) Monitor resolution ""@144hz
2) Graphics card: GTX1060 6GB
3) Games you intend to play

There are many games that a GTX1060 6GB can push well over 144hz at something like 1920x1080. 2560x1440 is a little more difficult. But it really comes down to the load you intend to put on the GPU. If you want maximum graphics settings at 2560x1440@144hz, you will need more than a GTX1080. (That is what I have, and many games hover around 90FPS)

I agree with Dooop, I'm basically planning for a future when I buy a faster GPU, probably volta or something. People tend to keep monitors a lot longer than GPUs, so I didn't feel too bad investing a lot in one.

What cpu do you have? High fps is very cpu dependent, no point pairing a top end gpu with a low end cpu, it won't help fps.

for PUBG you are going to need to overclock the cpu and get a powerful gpu plus tweak settings

and even then you most likely will not get great fps

The first two shouldn't be an issue for a GTX1060.

Pubg takes a little more but still a reasonable frame rate at 1080p.

If you are still selecting a monitor and you want FPS more than resolution a 24" 1920x1080@144hz monitor isn't a bad choice. 27" basically requires 2560x1440 for the pixel density to be high enough and then the GTX1060 will probably not reach 60 FPS in some of the latest AAA games. Still playable though.
