I'm later going to pick up the AOC AGON AG241QX, And even later i'm going to get a gaming pc and i was wondering what is the best gpu for 1440p 144hz gaming? I'm mainly going to be playing Overwatch and some other e-sport titles. I would like to get an AMD card since the monitor has AMD freesync

Hmm best would be 1080ti that would allow you to more easily hit that 144 fps mark in most games. However, if you want best price vs performance. It would be the 1070.

I honestly normally don't recommend a 1080 unless your doing 4k gaming or VR due to the price.

I run an MSI 1070 OC out of factory to 2000mhz with a 144hz monitor at that resolution. I also use an AOC monitor. I have no issues playing games in high.

Well because of the monitor you have no choice but to wait until Vega lands, anything else from AMD probably won't deliver and it kinda makes no sense to go Nvidia when you have Freesync monitor.

Also, while at it, do yourself a favor and wait for late September until proper 3rd party cooler versions of Vega will come out, do not even think for a second buying reference air version, that <mod edit> gonna be reference 290X all over again, I am honestly shocked they actually went ahead and put a frikkin' blower reference cooler on 300w TDP card.

Well duuuuuuh?

Makes no sense to give up sync solution you already have in the bag and Vega will be pretty much up to par with everything Nvidia has besides 1080Ti or frikkin' Titan anyway, so no point jumping 1070/1080 ship in that case if you have Freesync monitor already.

That said I suspect that decent 3rd party Vega availability at sane prices will be no earlier than December, so that's a minus.

Before your edit you made it sound like an AMD gpu was the only option, and that's not true. So for the Op and any future readers I felt it need some clarification.

Freesync is a fairly inexpensive feature. Odds are if you are looking for a high refresh rate monitor it's likely going either going to have Freesync or G-sync, with the Freesync option being the least expensive.
Now if the Op had a G-Sync monitor then I would agree that using anything other than a Nvidia card didn't make sense because of of all the extra money spent on the feature.

He's got the freesync monitor already, does not matter if it's cheap or not. Sync is a sync, cheap or not and it would be dumb to not use it if its available.

And before you think I'm some AMD crusader, I myself have 1080Ti and Gsync monitor, so I am not for AMD - I'm against stupid.

Disregard sig, I did not update it for years.

Currently for the FPS the OP wants to achieve Nvidia is the best available option, regardless of what sync tech the monitor supports.
Vega may change this when it's released but there is limited information available at this time. So it comes down to if the OP wants the wait till the middle of next month(possibly longer depending on availability) or if they want to buy now.
