I have an old PC lying around with an AMD Athlon II X4 635 in it. I've seen people recommend the GTX 750 Ti for this at stock speed. However, I want to overclock my CPU. Most people have gotten it around 3.6-7 gHz. What would be the best GPu paring for it at those speeds? A GTX 760 or 770?

Depends on resolution and PSU. A friend of mine has my older system (custom built, heavy gaming) with a 965 @3.8ghz paired with a R9 290 (1080P) but my fathers system (prebuilt HP, minor gaming such as WoWs) has a X4 850 paired with a GT 1030 (900P). At 1080P and assuming you get that 3.7ghz OC I would think anything from the GT 1030 to the RX 570 would be a solid pairing for gaming.

Thanks for the help. I haven't gotten a PSU yet but I'll run it at 1080p for gaming.

What motherboard are you running? Early AM2+ boards may have issues running anything past 700 series GPUs.
Size of power supply and available connections?

Small power supply or old without many VGA connectors? Then these are good options.

750TI/1050=Windows 7 and up
1650= Windows 8/10 "Would be ideal for low power draw and performance"

These are how GPU's in your range are listed in order of performance and price, Slowest to Fastest anything not from above will require more VGA connectors and at least a 450W supply.

1050 2gb GTX $120 with Fortnite
RX 560 4gb $99
1650 GTX $150
1050 TI $165 with Fortnite
1060 3gb $199+ with Fortnight $119-$129 refurbished
RX 570 $119 with 2 games
1060 6gb $199+ with Fortnight $119-$129 refurbished "Newegg same price as the 3gb:unsure:"
RX 580 $189+ with 2 games
1660 GTX $219

Anything on the AM3 platform is going to hinder GPU's above a RX570/1060 3gb the more you spend the worst that gets.

Due to enormous power draw of AMD GPUs instead a NVidia 1050 / or 1060 or a Quadro K2000 if you wish to produce 3D-content, too or if you want to mod it to keep it steady on a controllable overclock-ratio.

Anything below is cost-ineffective as long it is not a used and very cheap 760.

Ti does not make sense; would only make sense the other way around: under- -clocking | -volting.

Grab a Zotac if you like it quiet, or if it is a used one, ASUS is an option, too.

730/1030 is not an option, as your requirements can't be fulfilled. 750 Ti would be lower bound, but again: not a viable option and cost-ineffective.

Watch out for models with GDDR-5, there are models with GDDR-3, too. The latter ones were available with more RAM if i remember correctly, which doesn't help in your scenario, instead it would hinder, due to aperture, speed and size of your main RAM.

I tend to recommend the 1060.

2nd-hand refurbished, proven to be working, checked and with warranty for two third to three fourths of the actual price.

Or used from private for max half of the actual price-tag on discount aka Bundled-sets, if they are to your liking.

Hope it helps. Have fun. Thanks for reading.
