You might be able to get away with upgrading to a 1050 ti without changing the psu, but its certainly a risk if its of questionable quality.
Replacing my gpu for the 1050 ti, gives me a load wattage of 309W (current psu is 450w). I think it should be ok, though i honestly dont know about the psu's quality. Was thinking about getting vr in the future and im not sure whether the 1050 Ti is capable of that. Regardless, thanks for the anwer, seems like a good and affordable gpu.
There are a few issues here. 450W is plenty for a 1050 Ti but low quality PSUs don't always deliver their advertised wattage. When a PSU goes bad it has the potential to ruin the rest of your hardware as well if it doesn't have good safety features. Cheap, no-name PSUs like that don't typically come with those safety features so using them puts your entire PC at risk. With super efficient GPUs like the 750 Ti and 1050 Ti you are less likely to have a problem but no one can guarantee that you won't.
A 1050 Ti is a nice, budget GPU. It will give you above 60 FPS in many esports titles like Overwatch, Rocket League, Dota, League, and CS:GO. It is still a budget GPU though. In more demanding, AAA games you are going to have to sometimes turn the settings down to around medium if you want 60 FPS.
It's not really a good GPU for VR. VR headsets like the Oculus Rift are 90 Hz to keep everything smooth and prevent motion sickness since the screen is so close to your eyes. The 1050 Ti just isn't going to be able to put out 90 FPS at the resolution of these headsets in most VR games.
For VR I would recommend a minimum of a GTX 1060 or RX 580 but a GTX 1070 or Vega 56 would allow you to max everything out in VR. Here comes the next problem though. Your FX 8300 is going to end up bottlenecking all of those GPUs and prevent you from getting 90 FPS in VR. I also would absolutely not trust your PSU to run a PC with any of those GPUs.
Unfortunately I think you are going to have to do a complete system rebuild if you want to get into VR and have a good experience with it. A 1050 Ti is probably the strongest GPU I would put into your current system. Anything more powerful is probably going to require a completely new build in order to prevent bottlenecking.
