I currently have a dell machine from
2010. My rig is really outdated. Ive been playing WoW. Up until recently ive been able to do raids. With the new expansion around the corner, i was curious if i could upgrade my gpu to improve performance.

I have;
AMD Phenom II X6 1045T
Graphics Chipset
AMD Radeon R7 200 Series
8 gb of ddr3 ram.
thank you!

You are probably limited to videocards that don't require a 6 pin connector, since it's a Dell. So that leaves the 1050 or 1050 Ti or AMD equivalent. A 1050 will be an improvement but for a CPU intensive game like WoW I don't know if it'd be worth it. And that assumes your old Dell has no compatibility issues with the new videocard.

Phenom II doesn't have high enough single threaded performance, to really do well with WoW, anymore, especially one clocked so low. A friend of mine had a Phenom II 840 and is struggled to play back in Draenor. Changed him to an i5 4590, with a new board, using everything else he already had, and the difference was like night and day. He was only using a GTX 560ti at the time.

I have been playing alpha for the new expansion and the game is playable. Even in pvp. On live, the only time I really lag or studder is in 25 man raids where spell detail is congested. Looking in my system I have a 460 psu, r7 260 and 8 gb of RAM. I have no idea what Mobo I have, when ilook at it, it says; unknown or Dell board. When I open up the machine I can't see anything deciding. When I look up Dell 7100 pictures of motherboards I can find it but again, no real info on how I can put the info into PC part picker to see if I can find an upgrade. Budget wise, I buy nothing on credit so I was just hoping maybe I could replace psu, CPU, GPU and get maybe 2 more years and that would be good for me.

You could look at maybe finding a used 3rd or 4th gen Intel setup. Anything current would require ddr4 ram, where yours is ddr3. Problem with dell's, and OEM's in general, is that they tend to use proprietary parts, so upgrades can be difficult. What kind of budget do you have?

I'm thinking around 3 -4 hundred. After that I might just be better if to save for a whole new one

Getting a decent graphics card is kinda difficult right now. I was hoping maybe you had the budget for something like this.

This would get you something to start with, reusing your current hard drive. You would need a new copy of Windows though, most likely. You can get windows 10 from Microsoft, and run it unlicensed until you can afford to purchase a product key.

From what I have seen, the 2400g is quite capable of WoW, and you can start saving for a better graphics card, before BfA starts up.

ugh ad block kept me from replying half the time.

So i appreciate the above answer. I was playing around with pcpart picker and if im going to go that high, i might just save and replace more along with that.

what do you guys say about
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/xfx-amd-radeon-rx-550-4gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card-black/5982203.p?skuId=5982203

at first glace is a low tier card but has decent scores decently for a 4gb. at $169 its a steal. plus i can get a discount.

Again, i know my processor is blah.Im really just trying to make this last one more expansion until i save enough to rebuild completely.

i can also get a 560 for like 50 bucks off.... sorry for the randomness. i know my ram is limited and bottlenecking can happen but again. 200 vs 400, at the 400 mark i feel like save for a few months more and completely rebuild. let me know what you guys thinks. Also according to pcpartpicker, all these are compatible with my system. and PSU

for the time being i decided to go with the rx 560. Its good enough for the job. I currently have ddr2 sticks, should i invest is ddr3 ? or because of my cpu, just save the cash for the new rig.
