Best GPU for i5-2400

I have an i5-2400, 8gb ddr3 1600mhz ram, hd 7850 gpu, 750W 80+ bronze xfx psu. looking to upgrade my gpu. what do you guys think would be an optimal pairing with no bottleneck and the ability to play with high to max settings playing mainly world of warcraft, Black ops 3, elder scrolls, gta V. thanks for the advice in advance.

A GTX 970 would be a worthy upgrade for your system.

Not at all. Any bottlenecking would be minimal. The 2400 can overclock, some, provided you have a P67 or Z77 board.

Yea, doesn't help then. GTX 970 would still be a fine card, for you.

wow heavily favored nvidia back in wrath and cata but with the new tech with the r series radeon cards i heard the difference is minimal. or is that false?

i have a 2500k which is virtually the same as your 2400 except im overclocked to 4.5ghz compared to your 3.1ghz. otherwise i have a 980ti and i have absolutely no meaningful bottlnecks and i hit all the same benchmark scores as others do with newer cpus.

i would say a 390/970 would be an excellent upgrade and you wont have any bottlenecks to worry about.

and if you are on 1080p, the "WoW favoring nvidia" isnt going to be relevant with the power of these class gpus as it wont matter that the 390 gives 105fps while the 970 gives 135fps. get whatever you feel is best as they are both excellent cards. though i would personally favor certain 390 models over the 970.

It still favors Nvidia. A 390 typically holds its own with a GTX 970, but even a 390x loses by a significant margin, up to 1080p. It closes the gap, quite a bit, at 1440p, and just barely edges it out @ 4k.

thanx guys, very helpful info, ill go with a 390 for the lower cost and extra vram as it may help when i start doing some rendering for tutorial videos im making.
