I'm thinking of upgrading my radeon r9 280 sometime in the near future. I'm on a 1920x1080 monitor which is 75hz and I'm not looking to upgarde to a 1440p monitor so should I stick with my r9 280 or upgrade soon. I'm going to upgrade to an i7 4790k hopefully aswell.

In that case, you are asking this question way too early. Alot will change on teh market until then. Not only is teh 1060 coming soon, but AMD will probably release Vega in october to compete with the 1070 and 1080. Theres even a posibility that there'll be a 1080 Ti out by then.
At this point it's a waiting game. Wait for the RX480 to have 3rd party manufactures make their own versions like MSI,ASUS, etc. Then wait on GTX1060, compare the performance and decide "Should I go with the RX480 or wait for 3rd party versions of the GTX1060?"

I'm not looking for a card right now so I'll wait and see what the future cards have to offer. I'll probably get one for Christmas so the budget isn't rly a problem atm but not to expensive I'd say under €500 anyways for now. Thanks all.

Alright thanks! :)

You shouldn't even be considering this class of GPUs unless you can also get an i3. You would barely see a benefit(if any) by moving up from the 280 on that dula core. Time for an upgrade.

Both would suffice and serve any GPU you end up getting perfectly, but i would personally go for the 4790k to make sure I'm set for 5 or so years. Mind you, if you don't own a z97 motherboard you can't overclock so theres no need for a k series CPU. So if you are on a different chipset than z97, i wholeheartedly recommend that you get a Xeon E3-1231 V3.

It is equivalent to an i7 4770, yet it costs closer to an i5.
