Hello,
I'm looking for a new graphics card, but I am not sure, what can my Corsair VS550 PSU handle. I tried it together with a GTX 770, but the PSU fan was going really loud. My CPU:

FX-6300 Non OC

After I returned the CPU back to stock speeds the noise got less intensive and it stopped being loud in some less GPU intensive games like WoT entirely and in games like AC:4 it took longer for it to start being loud and it was more quiet.

So I wonder, if I could run a GTX 970, which apparently has like 70W lower power consumption since a few Watts on the CPU made this difference. I don't really need to OC, though it would be nice.

Thank you.

The VS550 can handle a 970 , it has the needed PCIE power connections , and has 42 amps on the 12v+ rail which is more than enough power for the 970.

A GeForce GTX 970 needs 28 amps on the 12v+ rail and a 500 watt power supply with 2 PCIE power connections.
Yes I know that the minimal wattage was higer. That's why I didn't just buy it right of the bat. I borrowed it from a friend.

Now because the 970 has a lesser TDP does that mean, the PSU Fan will stay quiet?
