Best GPU to use?

I have got my PC linked up to my TV in my lounge and use it as my media center, I watched all tv through my PC and general web surfing, it is usally on 12-20 hours a day. I just bought a 50" 4k TV and want to get a GPU to help support video. I will mostly just be using it to watch UHD video etc. However I will occasionally (couple of times a month) game but only the likes of Fallout 3 or New Vegas and Minecraft, hopefully at Ultra.

I was considering the MSI GTX 960 or MSI GTX 970 just for a bit of future proof if I decide to game more later (maybe Fallout 4).

I am concerned that using these may start racking up the electricity bill and become wasted if it is only for a small amount of gaming and just general web surfing and video streaming. So want one that will stay cost efficient when idle.

One of the main reasons I don't game more is that my GPU is crap and it's awful trying to play and game in low detail, So I stick to Xbone. I have looked at the GTX 750ti but it's benchmarks aren't great for if I do want to game.

I run Windows 10
Acer Aspire M3970 (prebuilt)
GT 610 GPU

Thanks in advance.

Even the GTX 970 is not powerful enough to game at 4k, but if you run the games at 1080p you will be fine. Also if you're not driving the GPU hard (ie: Gaming on ultra) it doesn't use any extra power. Even if it did I can't imagine it effecting your electric bill more than a negligible amount unless you live in a place with astronomical electric costs.

Yup i think so too, if you can't afford upgrading the pc you can still always turn the res down to 1080, but seeing as you got the 4k tv, being able to use it to your viewing advantage will eat a bit more of your wallet in all honesty.

Upgrade, now or in future, and also i hear we aren't far off 4k blu-rays, enjoy :)

4K gaming is pretty much useless now since you have to at least have a 800$ to play it 60fps medium settings at modern games.
