I was thinking about getting a GTX 260 SSC for about $230, but then I looked up the benchmarks compared to the GTX 285 (for 100$ more) and saw a greater performance leap. I was wondering would it be better to go for the GTX 285 now, and not SLI it later, or buy a GTX 260 now, wait until it drops another 50$ and then SLI it.
I've looked at the 4870x2, but supposedly it draws a lot of power, is very hot, and its more than I'd like to spend for now... (450$).
Any suggestions?
Thanks, I love Tom'sHardware forums. :D

Value isnt a word I'd use on any of those.

The only graphics card remotely approaching 'value' near the top end is the single 4870, or a 260gtx if you can find one around the same price. You wouldn't buy a 280 because a 4850 x2 is faster and cheaper, the 285 is a laughable joke in terms of bang for buck (it's also slower than a 4850 x2) and the top 2 are still overpriced.

I guess the card you really want is the 4850 x2, but I get the feeling you won't go for that anyway.

Well, I don't know. The 4850x2 is only 230$ which seems like a pretty good buy. I wish I could compare it to a GTX 260 SSC. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102813
