I am plm.youtube.com/watch?v=5Mq_WKjOAa4nning on creating triple monitor setup with asus pb278q monitor each monitor has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 so from three I'll be getting 4320 x 2560 in portrait mode.

my current pc specs
core i7 3770k
16 gb ddr3 corsair vengeance @ 1600
1 tb Samsung ssd 840 evo
his iceq x2 7970 3gb ddr5
asus maximus v formula mobo
nzxt phantom full tower cabinet
corsair water cooled cpu

I know that single 7970 is not enough to run all three monitors so my question is whether should I get another 7970 and crossfire it or should I get some other card. because I heard there are some issues in crossfire. money is not an issue I want the best possible card to run this resolution smoothly.

Triple monitor setup in portrait
Horizontally 1440+1440+1440= 4320
Vertically 2560
therefore 4320 x 2560 and not 7000plus x 4320 that's for six monitors

Solution
First of all your math for resolution is wrong. I dont know how you get that number but, 3 monitors in portrait will have a resolution of 7680x4320. That is a huge resolution. Forget about gaming with a single 7970. For that resolution, you will require a HUGE Vram and a fast processing power. And this is a situation, where the GTX titan black will make sense. Believe me I have never recommended the gtx titan since the 780ti came out, but in this case, Yes, the GTX titan 2 way or 3 Way SLI makes perfect sense.

Another cheaper option is getting the R9-290x in Xfire.

A 780ti or titan black can do so. Titan can easily do so due to the 6gb vram. If u got a 7970 you should have got d 6gb where in the long run you could have easily cf with another 6gb 7970. Btw another option is 290 or 290x but that depends on price due to regionwise the mining cost are higher.

You heard correct. Both sli/cfx have issues at times, but using cfx there seems to be more. AMD have sorted much of the problems out but as with all multiple card setups you will run into problems now and then that don't exist on a single card. Especially the recently released titles, as it take time for appropriate fixes to be released. IMO Nvidia do a better job with their drivers overall. I wouldn't go less than 4gbs vram though, which in[strike] single[/strike][strike][/strike] card options is either titan black or 290x. Don't know where maxwell will sit when high end cards are eventually released. Maybe worth waiting, or not.

Hell that's one huge resolution. 7680x4320

get atleast 2 titans. I run 4 titans @ 4680x2560 and while I can max everything at playable frame rates... i certainly cant do it with enough of a buffer that it will stay this way after the next round of AAA titles hit :p

Def make sure you get something w/ >3gb of vram unless you dont mind keeping AA off (to be fair you dont really gain much visibly from aa @ this resolution)
