I recently bought a Sapphire Radeon RX40 Nitro 4GB for my pc. This didn't give any signal to my monitor. after a lot of research and help it transpires i need a card that will run on a legacy bios as my pc doesn't have a UEFI Mode available and nore is there any further updates.

So My Question is what is the best graphics card that will run on a legacy bios without any problems in 1080p and a decent fps ? ideally without braking the bank too much.
,Thanks

I subsequently found out on the Dell forums that the newer AMD cards don't work because they don't support DOS VESA video mode 103, which the older Dells need to display the BIOS.

Nvidia cards, at least up to the 10xx series cards, will work according to the forums (numerous people stating that the GTX 1050 and GTX 1060 have worked for them on the XPS 8300).
Is this from, say, a Dell XPS 8300 system?

I ran into a situation where the Radeon R9 285 I happened to purchase didn't work on it. Yet, others had claimed the R9 285 did work on it.

The difference is some of them had a switch on the video card to work with legacy BIOS versus UEFI. My R9 285 didn't have that, so it wouldn't work in my system.

So, it's not just a matter of older or newer AMD/Nvidia chips, but whether Gigabyte, MSI, or whomever makes the card put in the support for legacy BIOS.

It couldn't hurt to search Dell's support forums, as well. I find the forums to be clunky and awkward, but there's some good info to be found there sometimes.

Most AMD ROMs are Hybrid so it should have worked. could have just been a bad video card or your PSU is to weak. If you have disable CSM in mobo bios you will get issues (like black screen on power on, etc). This said custom models may not fully adhear to AMD specs. Another thing is have you updated the bios for your motherboard? Also try resetting bios.

I am a bit late on the topic but just in case you are still searching: I have buit my rig with a old shitty hp motherboard wich came with a i7 2600 for cheap. I made a lot of research before choosing the GPU because this mobo will not boot with a UEFI bios GPU. I finally paired it with a R9 290 tri x from sapphire and it still delivers solid performance, I even have no problem yet with VR. This card, and other sapphire product in R9 2xx R9 3xx series from Sapphire have a Bios swith that allows you to switch between UEFI and Legacy mode. If you are still searching, I would recommenf looking for a used R9 390 or 390x Nitro from Sapphire it would deliver a pretty solid 1080p experience.
