I'm looking to replace my GTX 745 with something better.

Any ideas on what the best graphics card that will fit in the X51 without any kind of mods?

Solution

Go with the 770 or 780 or 780Ti. Or you can wait for the 800 Series which is rumoured to perform at least 20% better.

Specs are

Windows® 8.1, 64Bit, English

4th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-4460 Processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz)

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 745 with 4GB DDR3

8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600Mhz

1TB SATA 6Gb/s (7,200RPM) 64MB Cache

Hi there,
I am also planing to buy a Alienware X51 and I would like to replace the default graphics card with my Gigabyte mini GTX 970. Is this possible? I mean is the default power supply of X51 able to run my graphics card?

Hello there,
I own a Alienware X51 R1 with a 330W power supply and I recently upgraded the 660 GTX OEM to a GTX 670 SC 4GB from EVGA.
It works without problems and feels like the graphics power is twice as fast as before. The whole system needs about 300W max. I read somewhere that the 900series is not supported because it needs more power. A 760 is the latest version you can fit I think.
But you may get problems with the heating, its not too hot, but very noisy when playing some games.
And you better use a blower fan style graphics card.

Hi everyone,
I have a x51 R2
CPU: i3 4150@3.5GHz
GPU: 745(OEM)
RAM: 6GB

I'm sorta new to the whole PC gaming scene but would a GeForce GTX 750 Ti EVGA SuperClocked 2GB Edition be compatible with the x51 R2. Im not looking to spend anything past $200 but I would like to effectively upgrade from the 745 OEM because its pretty shit.

Hi again,
Thanks for your reply. I think there is something we need to clarify first. On Nvidia specs page it shows that your graphics card (GTX670) needs 170W of power:
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-670/specifications
And on the same page it says 145W for GTX970 which means 25W less than GTX670.
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-970/specifications
So theoretically your X51 should run GTX970 as well. Is this true or am I missing something?

I have an i5 processor with a gtx 645 graphics card. What would be the best upgrade for my x51?

I would suggest going with a EVGA 960 or you can even maybe have a look at the 970. Power draw on the EVGA cards are really good. THat would also be the best bang for your buck
