I have an old computer that I want to make into a gaming pc in order to play games like GTA V, Overwatch, Battlefield, etc. I was thinking of buying either a 1050 or a 1050 ti, but im not sure if those are the best options.

PC Specs
Processor: Intel core duo E4600
Motherboard: GA-945GCM-S2C
PSU:480W
RAM:4gb 1333mhz

Solution
1080p at "playable" FPS? Not a chance.

Note: I did NOT say it won't play those games "really" well. I said It won't play those games well, if at all.

The 1050 ti is a much better buy for the minimal amount of money over the regular 1050. However that processor is gonna bottleneck any recent graphics card pretty hard. I checked your options for CPU upgrades with your current motherboard and unfortunately you don't have many choices as that gigabyte mobo isn't compatable with quad core wolfdale series processors or anything so your stuck in the old dual core stuff. That mobo also only supports 4 gb of ram so there isn't any upgrade room there either. So while I will highly recommend the 1050 ti I can't personally say games like gta5 (which is pretty CPU intensive) or any other new game released in the past few years will run super well. But that 1050 ti does work great displaying games at 1080p with high settings and will future proof you for a few years on the graphics card front should you be able to work on getting new hardware for your PC.

and your games are 4 core only......a 4 core cpu and a dx12 compatible gpu will be sufficient.

I know it won't run any games really well, but I just need it to run in 1080p at playable FPS, so that I can later start buying newer components. Would that be possible at all?
