At the moment I am using the integrated GPU on this MB and it's pretty rubbish. I want to be able to play games like simcity 2013 and other PC exclusives.

It all boils down to what your willing to spend...
Well first you should take a look at what your motherboard has to offer. This is what I got when I googled your board model number http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K9N6PGM2-V.html.

It appears to be quite old as it only supports up to ddr2 ram as well as the PCI-E slots are gen 1. I would take a look at a cheap GPU such as a nvidia 640 or a radeon 7770 or even lower as your CPU probably cannot handle a high powered GPU.

It may just be time to upgrade the whole PC. The integrated graphics on the new haswell chips is very good at cranking out some decent graphics I have heard.

I might be upgrading my cpu to an AMD Athlon X4 610e soon which is supported, would this help?

It all boils down to what your willing to spend. You will benefit from a dedicated GPU regardless of CPU/Ram performance. You should pick a budget, then look at cards in the price range and pick the best bang for your buck. You should also check to ensure your PSU will have enough juice to power your new card. A Also you may want to check to ensure that a PCI-E 3.0 card will work in a PCI-e 1.0 slot.
