I just recently upgraded my entire system except for my graphics card i kept over from my last computer. This was my first time building and I don't really know that much about computers but i do know the simple things.

My Specs:
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 (White and Black)

CPU: Intel I5 4690k @ 3.5GHz (Stock)

GPU: AMD Radeon R9 270 Asus OC Edition

Motherboard: Asus Z97-A

Power Supply: EVGA 500 B1 80+ BRONZE (500 Watts)

8GB DDR3 system memory (RAM)

OS: Windows 10 Home Edition

Storage: Seagate 2TB hard drive

Asus Optical Drive

So my question is what graphics card should i get because mine is lacking compared to the rest of my system? I have looked around at forum post and they say it's depended on not just your wattage, but the brand as well and i'm not sure how good mine is. I am looking for something around 300-400 range. All input is appreciated!

The GTX 970 or AMD R9 390 would be perfect choices in that price range. You might also want to upgrade the PSU while you were at so it could support overclocking and a better card:

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card ($307.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: XFX TS 650W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply ($44.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $352.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

At 1080p gaming I'd personally recommend the GTX 970 I listed above. If you want to play games in 1440p then the R9 390 would be a better choice for a similar price:

Here's an article on why to avoid/ upgrade the EVGA 500B series if you can: http://www.overclock.net/t/1500086/why-you-should-not-buy-an-evga-400-430-500-600-500b-600b
