AMD Radeon RX 470, 480, 570, and 580 would have been the best cards in their price range if not for the miners. Screw them, I say!

I got my 3GB GTX 1060 @ 130 USD used. Was a steal really but it was lucky that I got it early before mining became a thing.

Maybe the solution to the mining problem would actually be to create a separate high computing power GPU derivative that's optimized just for mining and that wouldn't even have game drivers. You could call it a MPU - Mining Processor Unit or some such.

If things keep going like this it could be its own product category and both AMD and NVidia could bring more fabrication capacity online to manufacture chips just for that market.

Given I got my GTX 1080 Duke 8G at $479 on a sale, I cannot believe the performance per dollar I am getting from it. Withcer 3 at 1440p and Overwatch @1440p and 144hz brings tear to me eye.

There's just nothing there. Personally I would recommend an old GTX 970.

But doesn't it strike you as odd? that's one heck of a big gap!

As a crude comparison, here's some CPU prices. (Not terribly precise; from a chart posted last spring.)

For what it's worth, I have an RX and I've been unable to play Overwatch without it crashing ten minutes in since July. They're allegedly aware of the issue but haven't fixed anything yet. Caveat Empour...

At $290, the Rx 580 with 8GB of GDDR5 is the best sub $300 card. Without question. On the Vulcan software stack it will perform as well as the 1080 in real world gaming titles tests, at 1440p and below. Even at 4K it provides more than playable performance.
The mining demand on the HMB Radeon's make the performance to price a little tough to swallow, though they will outpace the 1080Ti in the popular gaming titles and at a lower price.

That's not even in the recommendations...
It's the 4GB version they recommend.

I'm also not totally convinced the RX 580 is the "best" if you take power usage into account.
Still, I have a hard time finding any review of 4GB RX 580s with the latest games and I'm not convinced it will typically beat a 6GB GTX 1060, with which they share pricing (at least here in Sweden).
(Available) 8GB RX 580 are more in pricing with upper end GTX 1060.

Hardware prices actually really depends on where you stay.When i bought my rx 550 around 3 months ago it cost me 1.3k.I build a pc for my friends kids last week and we got the 1030 for 1.6k.They didn't have 550 in stock.Now he told me for my bday i get to chose a gfx card upgrade of my choice.So i browsed around for about a week comparing etc.As i am not an opportunist i am not going overboard so i chose on the msi gtx 1050 oc g1 edition.Price to performance thats the best card.it cost 2.7k.I looked at the 1060 thats 1k more.Really not worth it and the rx 570 are around 1.5k+ more.

PS:I personally would go with rx50 over the 1030 as i tested it vs mine and he lost pretty bad in most stuff.
