So I'm going to upgrade to the GTX 1080 when it's released, and I've read that the founder's edition is essentially a reference card under a new name. I'm leaning towards the MSI 1080 founder's edition through B&H and I'm wondering if there's any major difference between the different manufacturer's Founder's Edition 1080's? Are they just selling reference cards under their name? So it wouldn't matter what brand I bought the reference edition under? Finally, is the Founder's Edition just a new cooler design and the only card available at launch? I've read conflicting reports with some saying it has better overclocking capability. If it's $100 for an exclusive cooler that's not as good as a custom design it doesn't sound worth the premium, but if it's the only card available at launch I'll get it.

Solution
There aren't currently any custom cooled models coming soon that I see, or any factory overclocked ones.
The founders edition is basically just the cooler and the bragging rights. They may say it overclocks better, but only because its clock isn't as high to start with as the custom factory overclocked ones.
