definitely not. Overclocking your CPU might help a little bit.

You can install GTX 970 in your current setup also but you will not get the full out of your GTX 970. Your processor will limit its performance(bottleneck). If you plan to upgrade your CPU, then go ahead and buy GTX 970. If you are not going to upgrade your processor, better save your money and get the GTX 750 Ti coz you will get almost the same performance as GTX 970 considering that your CPU will bottleneck GPUs performance.

Hi,

Please note that every game is DIFFERENT so your CPU may be the main bottleneck for one game and your GPU may be for a different game. They can even trade places in the same game depending on what's being processed.

A GTX970 is going to give a better experience in some games than an R7-260X would. The CPU will be a bottleneck more of the time but your CPU will not bottleneck 100% of the time.

Sure you can also buy a better CPU but that entails a new motherboard and likely copy of Windows as well.

*You may wish to consider an R9-290 as well. Recommended cards:

1) R9-290 4GB: $240 after $30 rebate: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-video-card-r9290aedfd

2) GTX970 4GB: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-04gp42974kr

*The GTX970 memory issue has been in the news lately causing lots of concern (can have stutter if a game uses more than 3.5GB). I did a lot of research and concluded there are times it can be a concern but it still wouldn't prevent me from buying it.

The R9-290 won't get the same performance but it's a lot cheaper, and due to your CPU bottlenecking many games the advantage of the GTX970 isn't nearly as high on average. Again though, it will vary a lot by the game.

(I wouldn't buy an R9-290 or R9-290X that costs almost the same as the above GTX970. Memory issue aside and that's rare currently the GTX970 is just a better performing card.)

thanks from what everybody has said ill probably buy the 970 (as its going to cost less than the refund money i get + its most expensive part of the rig

ill end up with hopefully £30 - £50 spare from the graphics card,
then i only have to find around £100 as the FX-8350 costs between £125 - £150
The motherboard should support it Motherboard Spec's
and a new 64x windows 7 will cost about £35 of Ebay

Your plan is a good one. Upgrade to a 970 and then get a better cpu later. You will get a substantial improvement in some games, and a minor improvement in others with GPU upgrade, and then the cpu upgrade will improve the games that the GPU didn't help that much.
