un ASUS was a refurb business set-up I think anyway have lot of trouble when playing on-line games such as poor response time- freezing-and hi power use replaced hard drive when it did it before --but cheap 1 now ordered Seagate 6gb/s 64mb 1 t 7200speed am wondering if it could help

The best hard drive for normal usage is a SSD.
A SSD is 50x faster in random I/o than the fastest 10k hard drive.
A SSD is 2x faster in sequential, 3x faster with 6gb sata ports.

If you really want a hard drive that performs, about the best would be WD black, 2tb. Larger, denser hard drives have slightly faster sequential transfer rates.

And, consider the source, but Samsung says a ssd can help your fps:

SSD's can help your FPS because nearly every game out there has to load new things for the video card as you play the game. If that data comes to the video card 50 times faster than a hard drive can get it there, then clearly that frame can be completed a lot sooner.
