Hello guys,

a few weeks ago I came into possession of the Gainward RTX 4070 Ti Phoenix GS. Due to the slightly older equipment, I decided to improve it a bit. I play at 2k and aim for at least 144fps. I'm still considering if I should choose DDR5 or DDR4 RAM. If my CPU cooler will be enough for 13th gen? Is this motherboard a good choice for my component's? I haven't found any better RAM with such a good price. What do you think about such a setup? Is it gonna he compatible? I'm open to any suggestions and knowledge to know about buying now new PC.

CPU: i9 13900KF

CPU cooler: Thermaltake Water Cooling - TH360 ARGB Snow Edition

Motherboard: ASROCK Z790 Steel Legend WIFI S1700 4DDR5

RAM: Kingston DDR5 Fury Renegade RGB 32GB(2\*16GB)/6000 CL32

Storage (not upgrading): ADATA SX8200 1TB, HDD 1TB WD, Kingston 128 SSD

Power supply (not improving): CHIEFTEC GPS-750C 750W

Case (not upgrading): be quiet! PureBase 500DX

Graphics card (not upgrading): Gainward 4070Ti Pheonix GS

How old is the unit? You should swap that PSU out for something more reliably built.

I'm also curious to see what your current specs. In all fairness, you don't need that i9 in there. What sort of tasks are you going to tax the build with? Gaming alone? include Streaming as well? Include apps that you want to tax the build with.

It's about 4 years.
Right now I have:
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
Motherboard: MSI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX, one pin from socket broke and my ram doesn't work on B channel, so it's one of main reasons to upgrade.
RAM: G SKILL ripjaws V 3200mhz 8gbx2 cl 16 if I'm correct
Cooler: Fortis 3 😁

Can you offer some good power supply for this build, please?
So you think I should buy the lower one, like i7-13700kf? I wanted to buy something better cause i9 gonna be more time playable, i mean If I buy this I can do upgrading later then if i buy for example i5 13600kf. I'm gonna play 2k, gonna try 4k in few months, sometimes streaming.

What country are you located and what is your budget?

I'm from Poland. I would like just to pay around 1.5k$ for CPU, motherboard, RAM and cooler.
You don't want to game at 4K with that card due to its 12GB of VRAM. Stay at 2K with that card.

You could build as is, but, I have some thoughts:
On the processor, spend $25 more for the non F version of a processor.
A nit in the total cost .
It is cheap insurance if you ever have a graphics card issue.
If you have the budget, a I9-13900K is as good as it gets.
If you buy anything less, you will forever be second guessing yourself.

On ram, DDR4 and DDR5 performs equally.
DDR4 ram and parts will be cheaper.
Unlike ryzen, Intel performance does not depend on fast ram.
DDR4 3600 speed is about right.

750w may well run the 4070ti.
Modern cards tend to have high power spikes well past the nominal requirement.
If you find yourself with strange failures under high graphics loads, consider upgrading the psu to a quality 850w or even higher.
Chieftec is not a well regarded psu. It has only a 3 year warranty. A quality unit will have 7 year warranty or more.

No longer can you get something for nothing by overclocking. Chips are binned and have little headroom. For gaming, it is best to let the turbo mechanism take place and boost a couple of cores past what an all core oc could do.

How high you can boost is determined by load, and cpu temperatures.
You would think that a big aio cooler would be good.
But, it turns out that the benefit may be marginal.
Here is an article that explains:
https://www.tomshardware.com/features/intel-core-13900k-cooling-tested

Your case is a good one for air cooling.
You may find that a good twin tower air cooler like the noctua NH-D15s would serve you better.
aio coolers do not last forever. In time air intrudes through the tubes or the mechanical pump fails or gets clogged.

In order to run a 13900K while getting the most out of that cpu, you want a board with beefy VRM's along with a 420 AIO ... none of which come cheap. That cpu gives the OP four more e-cores but the same amount of p-cores. Great cpu for a productivity rig but not so much for gaming imo when you add up the cost.

This is terrible advice. Especially for a 1440p gaming system or 4K gaming system. Simple terrible.

Modern cards tend to have high power spikes well past the nominal requirement.
If you find yourself with strange failures under high graphics loads, consider upgrading the psu to a quality 850w or even higher.

The 40x0 series in particular have been shown to be VERY good about keeping their spikes under control. It's not NEARLY the issue it had been with some previous generations.

This, again, isn't born out with modern components. It's not 2008 any more. Stop giving advice as if it is.

I cannot play 4070 Ti in 4k cause of 12VRAM? I saw benchmarks and maybe it's wasn't 120fps but it wasn't lower than 60. Thanks for ur components but I tbh I don't want to go lower than 13th gen intel. I don't see point of losing this performance also have you guys heard about ryzen 7 7800x3d? It is coming out in 6th april. What do you think about this performance at games? They're comparing it to 13900k.

^ the problem comes when you max out the texture to ultra settings and play. some AAA games really hog a lot of VRAM with high res 4k textures, shadows.

If you run the game at 4k with DLSS and upscaling from 2k res, that could be a way out. Again, depends on the games you play. And u can forgot about 4k if you wanna play with custom mods. Those would never be optimised takes all the resources.

The 7800X3D is launching on 6th april. Maybe give that one a go? it would be cheaper than a 13900k/Z790 combo and would run cooler and draw less power...

I posted an Intel 13 gen cpu with board and DDR5. With that said you might want to wait for the reviews of the 7800X3D before purchasing. btw I wouldn't put much stock in that Chieftec psu. If and when your psu goes there's always a chance it takes other components with it.
