Best high performance system not for gaming

I would like to find a pre-build for day to day activities and not really gaming. I do school work and like to watch high def movies and listen to music. I would just like recommendations for something affordable and has fast, high performance.

Need a budget - one man's affordable is another's princely sum. Also, does your school work consist of high-end modeling or video work or econometric applications or are you talking more along the lines of writing papers?

Also, will you stream from the 'net or watch movies off Blu-ray/DVD discs?
Will this system need peripherals like keyboard/mouse or a display?
Most will suggest building your own but if you want the security of a prebuilt warranty and ease of purchase, that's fine as well but we do need your location and budget.

This is mainly for Blu-Ray/DVD discs. I would like peripherals but nothing too fancy.
