Best Injet for B&W Photos?

I print lots of old B&W photos. I'm looking for a new printer. The
resolution given for printers is usually only for color printing, not B&W.
I remember that HP printers used to spec B&W resolution for their printers
some time back. If the color resolution was 1200 x 1200, the B&W was only
600 x 600.

Resolution is important, but overall quality of B&W is my main concern. Any
recommendations appreciated.

The Photosmart 8150 (or 8450) may fit your needs well. It has an optional
grayscale cartridge that provides excellent B&W photo prints. See:

With the #100 gray cartridge this printer is rated at 4800x1200dpi. If you are
in the US (just to make it easy for me) you can send me a jpg sized for 8.5x11
or 8x10 and I will make a print and send it to you.

I have a Canon i9950 and I cannot fault its black and white reproduction
(unlike my other unit, an R800, which has a distinct cyan/blue cast to its
black and white prints).

Besides the HP printers with the optional gray cartridge, the other
line of printers that produce superb results and possibly more archival
prints are the Piezography BW system sold at www.inkjetmall.com

You should really look into getting a few sample prints from them,
(http://www.inkjetmall.com/store/bw/piezographyBW-sample.html)
read over the numerous posts in the Epson Inkjet forum in Yahoo
Groups, and serious take a look at this system, albeit a bit pricey,
because these printers will produce museum quality prints that are
absolutely jaw dropping.

Price-wise, if you do make a lot of B&W prints and sell a few of
them, you'll easily recover the investment of this system.

printing, along with their unique gray balancer which can help you tune
the tint of prints.
