Hi... If you saw my previous post about which AMD processor is the best... well... It seems that under all this pressure I've converted to... Intel... I need to ask a few questions about bottlenecking for an R9 270X 4GB since I'm making this switch but back to the point. What is the best Intel CPU for $250 or under? I would also prefer to have a 6 or 8 core because I like to stream and record alot. :)

Thank you!

That sounds awesome but 2 questions, I'm using a 4.0 ghz AMD A10-5800k and how does a 3.4 ghz compare to that 4? Also could I video capture, record, and play a game while using this only 4-core CPU.

(noob question) Does the Xeon use hyperthreading? Or are they ACTUALLY 4 cores unlike the A10?

Haha ok man. Stay in touch with my profile, I'm going to be asking ALOT of questions about Intel tomorrow. Thanks guys.

The 3.4 GHz Xeon will be faster than the AMD running at 4 GHz, since although the later runs at a higher frequency, the former has higher instructions per cycle or IPC for short, so in each working cycle it can do much more than your current AMD chip. The Xeon is a actual quad core with hyperthreading technology so technically it is an 8 threads processor and it that makes it ideal for multitasking (Gaming while capturing video and recording) But in the case you are going to be recording you need to make sure that your storage write and read speed won't be a bottleneck.

Edit: Seems I was late as well.

AMD cores are very weak and games dont use all 8 cores. Intel haswell has over 50% higher IPC (instructions per cycle) comared to AMD piledriver. Even a haswell i5 (4cores no HT) will beat the FX-8xxx in all but a few heavy multithreaded benchmarks.

So yeah that 4 core Xeon (with HT) will mobb the floor with any AMD. Even with 600mhz lower clock.

Be aware you can't OC xeon cpus and for gaming the HT wont make much of a difference (if any at all). If you want something OCable you should go for i5 4690k. It doesnt have hyperthreading, but you can easily squeeze 4.5G out of it. It will easily beat the locked xeon when OCed.

6 core haswell (5820k) is way out of your budget, but as mentioned the extra cores wont give you any increased game performance.
