many people have been saying the i7 4770k is overkill and should go with i5 4670

i5 4670k as it overclocks with the k denotation. Non k's do not overclock.

If you don't care about overclocking, go with a Xeon E3 1230v3. It's basically a locked i7 4770 without the integrated graphics for the price of an i5 4670k. That's a less expensive way to get hyperthreading for upcoming games that will take advantage of it.

True and my fingers are crossed that it is true as I'm on a 3570k, with a healthy 4.3 OC.
