Best intel processor for me?

Hi everyone,

I would like to know which processor you would recommend, I have decided I will either buy this gtx780 http://www.amazon.co.uk/GeForce-DirectCU-Graphics-Express-Display/dp/B00DWV3NM6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408216057&sr=8-1&keywords=780 or this r9 290 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-Vapor-X-Graphics-Express-Display/dp/B00I940L6C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408216154&sr=8-2&keywords=sapphire+r9+290 which processor would you advise I buy?

Keep in mind that I will only be buying intel and that I wish to play the very latest games at the best performance possible according to my chosen gpu.

The computer which will contain this intel cpu will not only run intensive games but also be used for a lot of programming and a moderate amount of music playback (although I'm sure music playback is not very demanding!)

p.s. I would also like the processor to be somewhat future proof, I don't plan on upgrading it for a good few years.

Don't listen to that guy, he's suggesting a processor that is over $1000 and one that has heat issues. Best for the money and future proofness would be the i7-4790k. Its fairly cheap ~$330 and performs well.

Even an i5 4690k would suffice for years and save you 100$ on the i7

That is true. But it is not hyperthreaded. So eh. Itll last just not as long and multitasking will be worse although fairly minimally.

i5 4690K paired with a Z97 board for sure.
i7 is a waste of money for gaming. No performance increase, really.
The GPUs you have selected are both great choices by the way. I'd go with the Asus 780 as it runs cooler, faster and quieter while consuming less power, but it's completely up to you.

Probably it'll be more helpful if you mentioned your budget. If you are looking into something future proof, I would suggest the I7 4930k It's probably the best bang of buck out there.

A i5-4690K would be appropriate.
The hyperthreads of the i7-4790K will rarely be used.
That said, If the $100 price difference is not that important to you, I suggest the i7-4790K anyway.
What you get is a better binned chip that runs at 4.0/4.4 turbo at stock.

If you have a Z97 based motherboard, you will be compatible with the 14nm broadwell future cpu's.
But I think that will be a small enough boost(10%?) that you will have nothing significantly better until the end of your 4 year plan.

I'm not planning on over clocking the cpu as I have little knowledge in over clocking. Well... I may consider over clocking eventually but certainly not in the beginning.

I'm assuming the 4690k will be perfectly adequate without over clocking?

Also, many of you have mentioned the 4690k, can you confirm is this the exact 4690k I should buy, ie is this the 4690k you're recommending me ---> http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-i5-4690K-Processor-Graphics-LGA-1150/dp/B00KPRWB9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408219150&sr=8-1&keywords=4690k if this is true, I was then going ask for definite confirmation that this cpu in the link provided contains integrated graphics, however according to amazon it contains Intel HD 4600 Graphics.

P.s (bonus question) why do some processor names present a K on the end and others do not?

The K in the Intel line means it's designed by Intel to be overclocked.

Thanks to everyone for their opinions and their advice, much appreciated .
